Based on the events surrounding the assassination in 1792 of King Gustav III of Sweden, but set in colonial Boston, Verdi’s Masked Ball takes creative license in re-framing history by adding the usual dramatic trappings we love in opera: the characterizations, the romance, the fortune-telling, etc.
